The below is a rough and ready outline of my musical life events.

4/26/24 - HOLY CRAP MY ALBUM "HERE I AM" IS RELEASED ON NEW FOCUS RECORDINGS! Um... I worked on this for fifteen years of my life. It has a dozen of my FAVORITE musicians on it (Andie Tanning, Ashley Bathgate, Caroline Shaw, Charlotte Mundy, David Friend, Joe Bergen, Martha Cluver, Meaghan Burke, Mellissa Hughes, Pete Wise, Taylor Levine, and Sara FRIKKIN Budde!) and was recorded by ANDREW MCKENNA freakin LEE and then edited/mixed/mastered by my favorite human, the man with the ears of velvet badassery, Jascha Narveson himself. I won't bore you by saying a ton about it here - I can bore with what I've already said about it on the HERE I AM Bandcamp page.

3/21/24-3/29/24 - EUROTOUR! Switch your clocks and batten your hatches... I swoop in to London to play the Eavesdropping Festival at Cafe OTO (I'm 2pm GMT on 3/23, but come to the whole thing!! Lineup is amazing and theme is "Failure!") and then chunnel-training it over to play a set on Infuse Series alonside the inimitably incomparable Jascha Narveson in PAAAAAARIS on 3/27! Then a quick pop over to chat with Jessica Feldman's digital stuff class at American University of Paris on 3/29. It's gonna be a HOOT! Trés COOOOOOL! Email me if you're BOTH reading this AND able and itching to come to these things and I'll see if I can get you some comps!

10/4/23 - Just in time for Simchat Torah the following weekend, I Care If You Listen is hosting the video premiere of Shepherdess playing my Yiddish folksong inspired "A Sweet And Righteous Soul Gets Drunk On Champagne" - Patrick Hamm and I co-directed the vid as pretty much my dream dinner party in my apartment and between his gorgeous cinematography, Kayleigh and Hajnal's gorgeous musicking, my wacky beautiful friends, and my tried-and-true challah skills... I think it friggin worked! Check it out mit der Simchat Torah party!

9/29/23 - My album "White Fire" is released on Gold Bolus Recordings! WOOOOO! My first whole Lainie album is OUT in the world! Find it on my bandcamp page to hear and read all about it!

9/1/23 - My new band The Beverage Station (me and Jascha singing and sampling and dancing and doing electronic things) releases its first single "One and One" – it's very groovy. Check it out on Bandcamp!

7/14/23 - I performed my networked audience phone piece "Moving Past" at Beaver Hall on Salt Spring Island. It was a set with the ever-delightful Jascha Narveson as a culmination of our heavenly 2 week residency with the Woodland Farm Artist Residency Program. This residency in such a gorgeous place was so hugely joyful and restful while supporting me through some of the most intense work days of my life. I loved every second. And the concert at Beaver Point Hall was a dream - I made 50 challah roles for this Shabbat concert and they were all gone before the last beep was booped. Full WIN.

6/28/23 - I performed my new electroacoustic piece "Moving Past" with networked audience phone audio at Good Shepherd Center/Chapel Performance Space Wallingford as part of the awesome Seattle Wayward Music Series. That audience was seriously cool - I met graphic designers and physicists and coders and musicians who all come to... hear something new and weird! Bless those people.

5/2/23 - I guest lectured about my beeps and boops to the NYU grad composition seminar. Thanks, Jaime Oliver – what a cool and varied bunch of composers around that table!

4/17/23 & 4/20/23 - I guest lectured about my beeps and boops to the Columbia Intro to Digital Music students! Thanks for the invite Anna Meadors and Camila Agosto - y'all are sailing a pretty cool ship over there!

3/27/23-4/2/23 – SIDEBAND "REQUIT" TOUR – Get ready, folks! The sidebandits are at it again, this time EAST COAST style! I'm working on a new piece called "Eshet Chayil" for audience phones + laptop ensemble, and we'll have a bunch of other new rep to share from all our members! We're doing workshops and concerts at Wesleyan, Yale, U Penn, DC, and Carnegie Mellon. Whew! Then we sleep... More info on the Sideband site!

2/4/23 – I DO SET FOR LIVE-TRIGGERED SPATIALIZED AUDIO FOR SHANTI GRUMBINE'S GALLERY SHOW "IN FORMATION" AT 575 MADISON SPACE – You can read a bit about Shanti's amazing show on her site here, but to hear what I'll be doing in there at 4pm on February 4th, you'll have come to find out for yourself...I've never done it before!

12/13/22 – SHREW BREW PREMIERE PERFORMANCE OF COMMISSION "UTERUS" AT THE NEW SCHOOL IN NYC – I was so thrilled to get this commission for a piece inspired by women's bodies and reproductive rights. I created an open score with track from interview answers I got from people when I asked "what do you think of when you think of the word 'uterus.'" Spoiler: people have hugely diverse thoughts and feelings about uteruses! Come join us and hear all about it.

6/12/22 – I PLAY A SET FOR RECORD RELEASE OF "FLASH CRASH + REMIXES" AT PUBLIC RECORDS IN NYC – This album is so cool: "like a dinner party of friends," a bunch of us got to remix Jascha Narveson's piece "Flash Crash," written for cello and live electronics. I did some weird and wacky things with the audio and the MIDI info to create my offering: "Repairbot Q sent to Engine Room 3, working through the loneliness." I definitely pictured Wall-E when I was making this thing...not sure if that comes through, but I'm fond of this weirdo little track. Also, take a look at this lovely album review in I Care If You Listen.

5/28/22 – RECAP PREMIERES "HOLD" COMMISSION ON BOULANGIER INITIATIVE'S WOCO FEST IN DC – I'm working on a big theatrical piece for badass new percussion quartet RECAP and this is the first movement. I have cue cards and everything...

3/17/21 – AARON LARGET-CAPLAN GIVES PREMIERE PERFORMANCE OF COMMISSION "CAROUSEL" FOR CLASSICAL GUITAR AND MAX PATCH ON SOUND ESCAPES SERIES AT UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA, GREENSBORO – This piece makes use of Aaron's gorgeous guitar playing and a Max patch I made that basically takes recordings I made of me ranting off my anxieties and makes their clouds of altered playback react dynamically to Aaron's different volumes of playing. Thanks to Aaron for sticking with this commission even as pandemic uncertainty raged all around us. I'm grateful.

All on Zoom and YouTube Live. I'll be doing this from my parents' basement in New Jersey.

10-12/20 – PAULA MATTHUSEN AND I MAKE ONLINE INSTALLATION OF MY FILE SHARING/VOCODING PIECE "OVERSHARE" – I love Paula Matthusen so much. She had the idea to turn my laptop ensemble piece "Overshare" into an online installation that made use of the beautiful MIDI controllable organ at Wesleyan University. This installation version of the piece asks for contributions of audio recordings of people's worries, and then does quick FFT work to analyze that signal and then arrange it for the organ. The result is a primordial goo of worry, turned into beautiful tonal clusters. I'm so grateful to Paula for helping me and my community channel our worry in this way right now when most of us can't safely gather in physical spaces. I love you, Paula. [NOTE: THIS WEB INSTALLATION IS NOW ON HAITUS AS OF SUMMER 2021 – But we hope to run it again at some point!]

6/7/19 – I GIVE PLENARY ADDRESS TO THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR WOMEN IN MUSIC CONFERENCE AT BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC IN BOSTON – I was so incredibly honored to be ask to give the plenary address. I had to look up what "plenary" meant in this context. I decided to make it a conversation as much as a talk, asking the room to discuss how open we could be about accepting and celebrating a plurality of needs and desires in the women music maker community. Some of us want to wear our gender on our sleeve. Some of us want to be considered artists apart from our gender. There are probably as many different desires as there are women in music, and my talk hopefully inspired more people to accept and celebrate a greater variety of answers to a larger number of questions. Whew! If you'd like to see a little summary of what I talked about, turn to page 24 of this IAWM journal for fall of 2019.
