Telling a bunch of young composers (as a guest speaker in their class on 21st century notation) how I notate my music is a bit like letting them see my bathroom – how clean are my scores? Is there a logic to my weird notational penchants? Did I really need to accentuate that triple-f marking with the direction “crazy-insane-o”? Yes, it was an intimate experience, but it was tons of fun and I can’t wait to do it again!
