As a culmination of my intensely fun fellowship year through the LABA program at the 14th St Y, my string quartet setting of James Sturm’s wrenching graphic novel Market Day will be featured on their final event of the LABAlive season. I was so lucky to be able to bring in Steve Taylor and Patrick Pohl to realize a video version of the first third of the novel and use a pre-recorded live performance by JACK Quartet of the sketch I created in response to that section. I’m likewise lucky to be sharing the evening with two amazing artists I’ve come to know through LABA: performance artist Lital Dolan and visual artist Shanti Grumbine. They travel in different circles from my nerdy new music world, so I’m so thrilled to have gotten the opportunity to get to know them and their work – stay tuned for future collaborations with intriguing multimedia dimensions!
I have big hopes for the future of Market Day and now, thanks in large part to the amazing folks at LABA (A Laboratory for Jewish Culture) I’m on my way!

Here’s a quick promo video Steve made for the evening (using sped up animation and an excerpt of my quartet)
